Job Purpose:
As a Senior Health Care Worker at Dreams Care Homes, your primary responsibility will be to provide care to the residents, ensuring their personal needs are met in line with the ‘Code of Practice for Social Care Workers’ as outlined by the Care Council for Wales. You will oversee and guide junior staff, providing physical, emotional, and psychological support to residents while promoting their independence in a safe and caring environment.
Responsibilities under the Code of Practice:
- Protect the rights and promote the interests of residents and their carers.
- Establish and maintain trust and confidence of residents and their carers.
- Promote the independence of residents while ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Respect the rights of residents while preventing harm to themselves or others.
- Uphold public trust and confidence in social care services.
- Be accountable for the quality of your work and take responsibility for improving your skills and knowledge.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide physical and emotional care to residents in a manner that respects their dignity, privacy, and independence.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff or trainees to ensure care delivery meets high standards.
- Assist the Nurse in Charge with assessing, planning, and evaluating residents’ care in line with their care plans.
- Assist in maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and effective communication within the home.
- Monitor and report any concerns regarding residents’ well-being to senior staff promptly.
- Offer residents emotional and psychological support, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Ensure the cleanliness of residents’ rooms, bathrooms, and equipment used, keeping them ready for the next resident.
- Support residents in engaging in activities, hobbies, and social events.
- Assist with the safe handling of medication, and ensure all health and safety guidelines are adhered to.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and take part in staff meetings to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensure confidentiality at all times and follow company policies and procedures.
Person Specification:
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Social Care (or similar qualification) or a willingness to work towards it.
- Previous experience in a care setting, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to take direction and provide guidance to others.
- Flexible and able to work shift patterns to meet the needs of the home.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and respectful approach towards residents.
- Understanding of elderly care and the challenges associated with it.
- Ability to comply with the Home’s policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
